Thailand’s e-passport service has been fully operational since 1 August 2005. As Thailand is the first country in Asia to issue an ICAO-compliant e-passport, its experiences may prove highly valuable for other countries that intent to introduce an e-passport. This article sets out the difficulties that the Thai authorities faced during the tender, development and implementation processes.
