Award winning Mexican passport project The ICAO compliant, high security Mexican passport went live in 2000. De La Rue Identity Systems works for the Mexican Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE) to implement and manage a secure document issuing system capable of issuing over 2 million passports and nationality documents annually from up to 46 individual production sites. Applicant data is transferred onto a central data store using the SRE’s WAN (wide area network), where on-line security checks are also carried out. A revised application process incorporating fingerprint biometrics and rules-based software procedures has led to improved system security and process accuracy. Recently the SRE were awarded a prestigious prize from the President of Mexico in recognition of their new passport solution.
