What is 'normal use'? E-passport put to the test (by Claudia Hager) Print
Issue 19, 2006 With so many countries implementing e-passports, the question of durability and warranty is unavoidable. Chip suppliers, inlay manufacturers and passport producers claim that the e-passport and the electronic chip have a useful life of ten years, assuming normal use. So far so good, but what is a realistic definition of ’normal use’? Claudia Hager explores the alternatives and discusses the outcome of a series of durability tests.
