Like many other countries, the Netherlands is preparing for the introduction of an ICAO-compliant biometric passport. To make sure that the eventual solutions live up to expectations, several Dutch municipalities implemented a large-scale pilot involving some 15,000 volunteers. Although the pilot highlighted ample room for improvement, the authorities are one step closer to a successful and workable solution.
