The use of mix-matrix techniques to create holograms( By Ivo Aubrecht (co-authors Petr Svacina an Print
issue 5, 2004

As their name suggests, spatial light modulators (SLMs) are able to generate masks that spatially modulate light. Assuming the transmitted beam is focussed at the back focal plane of a lens, an interference pattern can be created. This pattern can subsequently be filtered and projected onto a photosensitive plate, where it is recorded. By moving the plate between exposures, a series of miniature diffraction structures can be created. Moreover, if the masks are formed by pairs of circular apertures, diffraction gratings can be generated. As this article explains, mix matrix techniques offer a novel way of creating holographic DOVIDs. Ivo Aubrecht has been involved in several research projects, and has conducted proprietary research into photopolymer and photorefractive materials. Ivo joined the holography group of the Czech Republic`s Police Presidium in 1998. He is still involved in academic research (IREE).
