The development of a test specification for e-passports (by Robert Balderston) Print
Issue 19, 2006

How and where to test your e-passport design?

The current family of Machine Readable Travel Documents (with the 2- or 3-line MRZ containing optically readable text) has been in circulation for nearly 25 years. However, it was the introduction of the biometrically-enabled MRP, or e-passport, which sparked renewed international interest in the specification and testing of passports. This article sheds some light on the status of an international standard for passport testing and provides guidance on how to have your passport design tested.
