The current family of Machine Readable Travel Documents (with the 2- or 3-line MRZ containing optically readable text) has been in circulation for nearly 25 years. However, it was the introduction of the biometrically-enabled MRP, or e-passport, which sparked renewed international interest in the specification and testing of passports.
