Issue 21, 2006 Multipurpose ID card safeguards identity integrity To many people, ID documents, like ID cards, passports and birth certificates, are little more than laminated pieces of paper or cardboard featuring a photograph, a name and other personal particulars. While most authorities that issue ID documents place great emphasis on the sophisticated security features included on such documents for the purposes of verification, there are many other important issues to consider in order to understand ID documents within a wider perspective.
