Introduction of ID cards proves problematic - Latvian ID card still some way off( By Dzintra Pene Print
issue 5, 2004

In issue two of the journal, Dzintra Peneze wrote about the proposed introduction of multifunctional ID cards in Latvia. In this article, she openly discusses the difficulties she and her colleagues at the Ministry of Interior and the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs have encountered, the feedback they have received and the conclusions they have drawn. Having started her career as Head of the Passport Division in 1997, Dzintra Peneze currently runs the Passport Division of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Latvia. The Passport Division puts forward proposals for ID documents, coordinates the issuance of passports, and looks after ID documents in territorial offices. Dzintra`s unit is currently in the process of developing a ID card.
