The world-wide introduction of biometrically-enabled passports makes new quality demands of the portrait of the passport holder. To guarantee interoperability for biometric verification using facial recognition, the holder’s portrait must comply with the international standards defined by ICAO and ISO. The new portrait requirements differ substantially from the previous criteria. As Uwe Seidel explains, the use of tolerances makes it easier for issuing agencies to meet these international standards. |
