An introduction to the new State Border Service The State Border Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is a state-level police authority. Its primary tasks are to control border crossings, to protect the green border region and to provide security at BiH’s international airports. The service became operational on 6 July 2000, starting at Sarajevo international airport. Between June 2000 and May 2003, it assumed responsibility for overall border security within BiH (including all border crossing points) as well as the four international airports. This responsibility was previously shouldered by regional and cantonal police agencies. Krstiæ Slobodan explains the ins and outs of the service. |
